Work out the price after a discount, how much is saved, and the real total discount when an extra discount is given on top – like 'flat 20% + extra 10%'.

How to use the Discount calculator
- Enter the price or MRP.
- Choose discount in % or in ₹ and enter it.
- If there is an extra discount on the reduced price, enter it too.
- Optionally pick the GST rate included in the price to see the GST part.
- Read the final price, the saving and the total discount %.
Why 20% + 10% is not 30%
An extra discount is taken on the price that is already reduced. On ₹1,000, 20% off gives ₹800; 10% off ₹800 is ₹80, so you pay ₹720. The total discount is 28%, not 30%.
Discounts and GST
A discount shown on the invoice at the time of sale reduces the value on which GST is charged. For a GST-inclusive price, the GST included is final price × rate ÷ (100 + rate) – pick the rate to see it.
Questions people ask
How do I calculate a discount percentage?
Discount % = (original price − final price) ÷ original price × 100. If a ₹1,500 item sells for ₹1,200, the discount is 300 ÷ 1,500 × 100 = 20%.
How do I work out the price after two discounts?
Apply them one after another: price × (1 − first %/100) × (1 − second %/100). For 20% and 10% on ₹1,000 that is 1,000 × 0.8 × 0.9 = ₹720.
Is GST charged before or after discount?
If the discount is given on the invoice at the time of sale, GST is charged on the price after discount. Discounts given later (for example, year-end schemes) follow separate rules, usually through credit notes.
Can I sell below MRP?
Yes. MRP is the maximum retail price; you are free to sell below it, which is what a discount does.
