GST rates are not shown here. Rates were revised on 22 September 2025 and can differ within one heading by item, price or pack. Check the current rate before you bill.

Codes here are at 4-digit heading level, with 6-digit codes for a few common items. If you need 6 or 8 digits, find the sub-heading under the heading in the official tariff.

How to use the HSN code finder

    1. Type the item name, a common Hindi name, or the first digits of a code.
    2. Narrow down with the chapter list if you get many results.
    3. Read the description and common items to make sure the heading fits your product.
    4. Click Copy and paste the code into your invoice or billing software.
    5. Check the current GST rate for that code on the CBIC rate finder.

    What is an HSN code?

HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) is the international system for classifying goods. India uses it in the customs tariff and under GST. The first 2 digits are the chapter, 4 digits the heading, and 6 and 8 digits narrow it down further. The same code is used for an item everywhere in India, so your buyer and the GST system read it the same way.

How many digits must I show on an invoice?

If your aggregate turnover in the previous financial year was up to ₹5 crore, show at least 4 digits on tax invoices to registered buyers (B2B). Above ₹5 crore, show 6 digits on all tax invoices. Some notified goods need more digits, so check the latest rules if you are unsure.

Why are GST rates not listed here?

GST rates were restructured from 22 September 2025, and a single 4-digit heading often has items at different rates depending on the exact product, its price or packing. A wrong rate on a bill causes more trouble than a missing one, so look up the rate for your exact item on the official CBIC rate finder.

    Questions people ask

How do I find the HSN code of my product?

Search for the product by its common name. Compare the official description with your item. If two headings look similar, the material and use usually decide it: for example steel utensils are 7323 while aluminium utensils are 7615.

Is the HSN code the same for every brand?

Yes. HSN depends on what the product is, not who makes it. A soap is 3401 whichever brand it is.

Are sarees and dhotis garments or fabric under HSN?

Sarees, dhotis and lungis are classified as woven fabric by the material (for example 5208 for cotton, 5007 for silk, 5407 for polyester), not as garments in chapters 61 or 62.

What if my item is not in this list?

This list covers goods commonly sold by Indian shops and traders. For anything else, search the full tariff on the CBIC website, or ask your CA. Do not guess a code for high-value items.

What is the difference between HSN and SAC?

HSN codes are for goods. SAC codes (starting with 99) are for services, like rent, repair or transport. Use the SAC code finder for services.
