Barcode generator
Make a barcode for your products or item codes. The check digit is verified for EAN and UPC, and you can download a sharp PNG or SVG for printing.
EAN and UPC numbers for products sold in stores must be bought from GS1 India. Making up a number can clash with another company’s product. For items only you sell, use CODE128.

How to use the Barcode generator
- Pick the barcode type. Use CODE128 for your own item codes; use EAN-13 only if you have a GS1 number.
- Type the value. For EAN-13 you can enter 12 digits and the check digit is added for you.
- Choose bar width and height. Wider bars scan more easily from a cheap scanner.
- Download PNG for labels and bills, or SVG for a designer or label software.
- Print a test and scan it with your billing scanner before printing many.
Which barcode type should a shop use?
For items you pack or tag yourself (loose grocery, garments, spare parts), CODE128 with your own item code is the simplest: it takes letters and numbers and every scanner reads it. EAN-13 is the 13-digit number printed on branded products in shops. Retailers and marketplaces expect it to come from GS1 India, which registers your company prefix, so do not invent EAN numbers for products you sell to other stores.
What is a check digit?
The last digit of EAN, UPC and ITF-14 codes is calculated from the others so scanners can catch misreads. If you type a full number and the last digit is wrong, the tool tells you the correct one, because a barcode with a wrong check digit will not scan.
Questions people ask
Can I use these barcodes in my billing software?
Yes. A barcode only stores the number or code. Enter the same code against the item in your billing software, and the scanner will find the item when you scan the label.
Are these barcodes free to use?
Yes, the images are yours. The numbers are a separate matter: EAN and UPC numbers for retail products should come from GS1 India so they do not clash with another company’s products.
What size should a barcode be printed?
Keep the full width and do not squash it. A typical EAN-13 is about 37 × 26 mm; it can go down to around 80% of that on small labels. Leave a white margin on both sides, and always print with black bars on a white background.
Why does my scanner not read the barcode?
The usual causes are bars too thin for the printer (choose a wider bar width), a missing white margin, low ink on a thermal printer, or the scanner not set up for that barcode type.
